Homemade A1 Sauce + Seitan Steaks

Because I didn’t feel like going to the grocery store.

A1 Sauce is actually vegan in it’s ingredients and after I read that I was like OMFG I should go buy some. Since yesterday I went to Vegan Shop Up in Brooklyn, a once a month vegan faire of food and treats! There I picked up from Monk’s Meats some Seitan steaks and shalami. The downside of realizing at 7pm that I wanted A1 sauce was the idea of going out in 38 degree weather to get it….nah thx. So I decided to make my own and here it is.

For the SAUCE: This makes about a mason jars amount FYI

-1 cup water

-1 cup balsamic vinegar

-1/2 cup vegan Worchester sauce

-1/2 cup ketchup

-1/2 cup Dijon mustard

-1 tsp celery seed

-1 tsp sea salt

-1/2 tsp fresh black pepper

-4 cloves of garlic minced

-1 tsp onion powder

-1 tbsp. organic sugar

Add all of your ingredients to a pot on the stove and get to a boil.

Don’t go on social media while you wait for the boil or that happens. Anyway, once at boiling turn down to a simmer and stir it periodically for 10 mins.

Once thick enough to coat the back of a spoon you are good. Turn off the heat and let it cool a bit.

I took a tupper ware and put in the seitan steaks and marinated them for about 20 mins in the A1 Sauce.

For a more authentic grilled steak I pulled out my Hamilton Beach Indoor Grill which for $60 is nice especially in NYC where I will not have an actual grill anytime soon.

I only served with peas because Hubz had to go to work early and I forgot so I wanted to get his meal packed up but it’s pretty tasty!

For dessert I had some tea from the Downton Abbey Exhibition I just went to on Friday and Macaroons I picked up from Vegan Shop Up vendor Confectionary!

Here’s a video if you to see some of the places I talked about! Happy relaxing Sunday everyone!
